Giam Chin Toon S.C.

Giam Chin Toon is a Senior Partner with a legal career spanning about 40 years. He received his LLB (Hons) in 1967 and LLM in 1969 from the University of Singapore. He joined the legal service as a magistrate from 1967 to 1971. He was among the first group of lawyers in Singapore to be appointed as Senior Counsel in 1998.

He has acted as Counsel for numerous major cases in court proceedings and before arbitral tribunals. He specialises in commercial disputes in particular building and construction, banking, property and corporate disputes. He has served as a member of the Butterworths Construction Law Advisory Panel.

He is actively involved in arbitration, mediation and alternative dispute resolution. He has served as arbitrator in many arbitrations both domestic and international. He is on the panel of accredited arbitrators of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, a Member of the Hawaii Panel of the Center for International Commercial Dispute Resolution and a Member of the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board. He is a Director in the Board of the Singapore Mediation Centre. He was also Chairman of the Sub-Committee on the Review of Arbitration Laws in Singapore.

A former President of the Law Society of Singapore, he is currently a Member of the Senate of the Academy of Law, a legal assessor with the Singapore Medical Council and Chairman of the Inquiry Panel of the Law Society. He had previously served as Chairman of the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme and the Rules & Etiquette Committee and a member of the Board of Legal Education.

Giam Chin Toon sits as a director of several private and public listed companies and is a Member of the Governing Council of the Singapore Institute of Directors. Currently, he also serves as Singapore's non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Peru and High Commissioner to Ghana.
